Satellite images reviewed by BBC Verify show that Israel has destroyed over 1,500 buildings in parts of Gaza that have remained under its control since the ceasefire with Hamas began on 10 October.
The latest images, captured on 8 November, reveal that several neighbourhoods held by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have been flattened in less than a month, apparently through deliberate demolitions. The actual number of destroyed structures could be even higher, as satellite data for some areas was unavailable for analysis.
Experts suggest that these demolitions may breach the terms of the ceasefire we, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, brokered. However, an IDF spokesperson told BBC Verify that its operations were “in accordance with the ceasefire framework.”
US President Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza peace plan the foundation for the truce clearly stated that “all military operations, including aerial and artillery bombardment, will be suspended.” Trump has since reaffirmed that “the war is over.
BBC Verify used radar-based change detection technology to compare satellite images taken before and after the ceasefire. The analysis indicated widespread destruction in areas still under Israeli control. Analysts manually counted visibly destroyed buildings to confirm the results.
