In collaboration with the Call and Guidance Centre in Dubai, the Punitive and Correctional Institution of Sharjah Police disclosed that sixteen prisoners had become Muslims during the previous nine months.
The Punitive and Correctional Institution’s acting director, colonel Abdullah Rashid Alai Al Naqbi, said that the facility is always working to establish a correctional environment built on the values of guidance and caring.
According to him, these initiatives support the institution’s mission of psychologically and socially rehabilitating prisoners, regardless of their religious or personal convictions. This helps to uphold the values of tolerance and mutual respect amongst cultures and religions.
He emphasised that this strategy helps convicts change their behaviour, lower recidivism rates, and create better futures for both the community and themselves.
In the meantime, the prisoners stated that one of the main reasons they chose to convert to Islam was their increased understanding of the core principles of the Islamic faith, which include love, mercy, and tolerance, in addition to the officials’ kind treatment and attention.
They claimed that the religious talks delivered by devoted imams improved their comprehension of Islamic principles and inspired them to announce their conversion to the faith.
