Japanese Organization aims to work on Energy Transition Projects with Saudi Arabia

TOTO: The research division of the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security conducted joint seminars with KAPSARC, an energy think tank in Saudi Arabia, last summer, demonstrating how the world is moving toward new energy sources while also fortifying partnerships with Japan.

An interview with Arab News Japan described the chief projects of JOGMEC’s Energy Research Division, Toyoda Kohei.

According to Toyoda, the petrochemical project in Petro Rabigh is one of the most significant business dealings between Saudi Arabia and Japan. Since 2005, Sumitomo Chemical and Saudi Aramco have collaborated to supply petroleum and petrochemical products.

The two nations have made strides in many energy-related areas, including energy transitions, despite Saudi Arabia being Japan’s main supplier of crude oil.

Toyoda remarked, “Japan has few resources, while Saudi Arabia has plenty of them.”

Fossil fuels are important for both countries, even though our positions differ greatly.” Their significance lies in their utilization of Saudi Arabia’s resources. As far as a steady energy supply is concerned, fossil fuels are essential to Japan.

According to him, the visions of Saudi Arabia and Japan are similar in that they aim to achieve a realistic and sustainable energy transition in the future rather than completely switching to renewable energy.
