The UAE is working with France to build a 1GW AI data centre, marking a significant step towards the global future of artificial intelligence (AI). The French presidency announced on Thursday that the UAE will invest billions of dollars in the massive ‘campus’, which is expected to grow into the biggest AI facility in Europe.
Shortly after President Sheikh Mohamed’s state visit to Paris, the news was made. The center’s creation was a component of a broader AI deal that French President Emmanuel Macron and the Emirati leader signed. A joint Franco-Emirati statement stated that the two leaders “expressed their desire to establish a strategic partnership in the field of AI and committed to exploring collaborations on projects and investments supporting the development of the AI value chain.
Data centres for artificial intelligence are planned to store data and supply the massive amounts of energy needed for the new technologies. The UAE-France deal was signed as international experts convened in Paris on Thursday and Friday to discuss the potential and risks of artificial intelligence (AI) in advance of a summit of world leaders on the rapidly evolving technology.
