The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia declared on Wednesday that all Muslims in the Kingdom are encouraged to observe the crescent during Ramadan on the evening of Friday, February 28. According to the Umm Al Qura calendar, which the nation created to calculate dates and months, the date is equivalent to 29 Shaban AD.
“Anyone who witnesses the moon with their own eyes or through binoculars is asked by the Supreme Court to notify the closest court and provide their testimony, or contact the closest centre to help them get to the closest court,” the authorities stated.
It said it “hopes that anyone who can see it will take notice of this issue, join the committees established in the regions for this purpose, and count the reward and recompense for participating. An “act of righteousness and piety” that “benefits all Muslims” is how the court described the Moon sighting.
Ramadan will start on March 1 if the Moon is visible on Friday night following the Maghrib prayer. On the other hand, the holy month will start on March 2 if the crescent is not visible.
According to the UAE’s International Astronomy Centre, Ramadan will probably start on March 1. Devotees all around the nation wait for the moon sighting, which marks the start of the holy month, each year.
