His Majesty Sheikh Sharjah’s ruler and Supreme Council member, Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, was present during the 16th Sharjah Biennial winners’ event in the city’s centre.
Sheikha Hind Bint Majid Al Qasimi, the chairperson of the Sharjah Businesswomen Council; Sheikha Hoor Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, the chairperson of the Sharjah Arts Foundation; Sheikha Nawar Bint Ahmed Al Qasimi, the director of the Sharjah Arts Foundation; and a number of general directors, heads of government departments, officials, and artists greeted Sheikh Dr. Sultan upon his arrival. A graphic presentation that included snippets from past editions, the main turning points in the planning of this year’s biennial, and the events and activities the biannual offers as major global artistic event.
The chairperson of the Sharjah Arts Foundation, Sheikha Hoor Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, gave a statement outlining the Sharjah Biennial’s overall goal of becoming a prestigious international creative arts event. She underlined how it relates to Sharjah’s cultural initiative, which is given the utmost consideration and care.
“Blessed by the visions of its sponsor and founder, the 16th Sharjah Biennial has arrived in the city from which it originated, carrying its gifts in abundant baskets,” she said. After travelling through various locations and eras in pursuit of the better value of humanity wherever it may be found, it presents its offerings across the emirate, enhanced by the artistic talent of people worldwide. The curators of the biennial look for authenticity and similarities in what seems distinct.
