Since hundreds of recent graduates join the UAE’s employment every year, the argument over the “proper” application of artificial intelligence (AI) is gaining traction in both academia and business.
Recent graduates and students are using AI to stay relevant in a world that is becoming more and more technologically advanced because failing to do so could cause them to fall behind. Instead of rejecting the technology, many are urging their universities to adopt it. Although typically positive, responses to the use of AI vary.
In Khaled Elkersh’s case, a coastal engineer, he wished he had studied more about artificial intelligence in college. Few people were proficient in AI when he was a student, and its application was not common. Elkersh reduces busy work with AI, especially ChatGPT. He reads long texts, summarises them succinctly, and converts images to text using the Large Language Model (LLM).
According to Elkersh, the main benefit of AI for engineers is time savings, even though it cannot perform complex engineering jobs. Now that AI can handle repetitious jobs, he and his team can concentrate on finding solutions to more significant issues.
