In the face of strong resistance from Washington’s Arab allies, including Jordan, Donald Trump reiterated his intention Tuesday to invade Gaza and force its citizens to relocate permanently. He was meeting with King Abdullah of Jordan at the time.
Reporters were escorted into the Oval Office shortly after the king and his son arrived at the White House, where the US president made it clear that he would not change his plan for the US to occupy Gaza, relocate its shell-shocked citizens, and rebuild the war-torn region. We will accept it.” We intend to treasure it and hold onto it. Eventually, we’re going to get it running, and many jobs will be produced for the Middle Eastern population,” Trump declared of Gaza, saying his plan would “bring peace” to the region.
If Jordan declines to resettle Palestinians, Trump has threatened to suspend funds from the country. In the past, King Abdullah has stated that he opposes any attempts to seize land and drive out Palestinians. In response to a question on Tuesday about accepting Palestinians, he stated that he had to act in his nation’s best interests and that Arab countries would provide a counterproposal in Washington.
He stated, “The point is how to make this work in a way that is good for everybody,” without endorsing or criticising Trump’s strategy specifically. He was supposed to warn Trump that such a move could incite radicalism, cause unrest in the area, endanger peace with Israel, and endanger the survival of the nation.
