Moscow has come under the most intense Ukrainian onslaught since the start of the full-fledged war, with around 200 drones hitting locations surrounding the Russian capital and sending columns of thick smoke billowing high into the sky.
Local governor Andrei Vorobyov reported that seventeen individuals were injured in the Moscow region. Russia’s defense ministry reported that around 1,000 drones and four Ukrainian cruise missiles were intercepted and destroyed across the country in 24 hours. An oil store was hit in the southern Rostov region, killing one person.
Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine has imposed “long-range sanctions” on the Moscow region, which refers to long-distance strikes on Russia.”It’s time to end this war, and Russia must take the necessary diplomatic steps,” he said.
He said that the large drone strike was in retaliation to last week’s Russian attack on Kyiv, which set a significant religious site on fire. Fires erupted after the Kapotnya refinery in south-east Moscow was damaged for the third time in a month and the second time this week, turning the sky black with smoke. Several films showed the lid of a big oil storage tank being thrown dozens of meters into the air by the force of an explosion.
