In a conversation with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stressed the urgent need to de-escalate relations between India and Pakistan.
On Thursday night, Pakistan used drones and missiles to conduct a series of strikes on Indian cities, but the Indian defence system stopped each one in midair. Along the border, Pakistan also began shooting without cause, which prompted Indian soldiers to retaliate quickly. Jaishankar emphasised India’s deliberate and methodical response to cross-border terrorism during the phone conversation. He declared that he “will firmly counter any attempts at escalation.” He valued the United States’ pledge to support India in the war on terror.
The Secretary urged ongoing efforts to enhance communications and emphasised US support for direct talks between India and Pakistan. In addition, he reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to collaborating with India in the fight against terrorism and offered his sympathies for the terrible terrorist assault in Pahalgam.
In a conversation with Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif earlier today, the Secretary reaffirmed his demands that Pakistan take decisive action to stop providing any assistance to terrorist organisations.
