The Netherlands’ Electricity Grid is Under Pressure From its Renewable Energy Sources

An actress cautions viewers about their electricity consumption in the “Flip the Switch” government television program in the Netherlands. Our power grid becomes overloaded when everyone uses electricity at the same time,” she says. This might lead to malfunctions. Therefore, between four and nine, use as little electricity as you can.”

It is an indication that there is a problem with the nation’s power supply in one of the most developed economies on the planet. Electric vehicles have been enthusiastically adopted in the Netherlands. In Europe, it has the most charging stations per person.

All of this is wonderful for the environment, but it is placing a great deal of strain on the Dutch national electricity infrastructure, which has had several power outages in recent years. Kees-Jan Rameau, CEO of Dutch energy producer and supplier Eneco, which now generates 70% of its electricity from solar and wind, claims that “grid congestion” is the issue.

“Grid congestion is comparable to a grid traffic bottleneck. Either too much power consumption in one location or too much power supplied to the grid beyond its capacity are the causes.
