After a Woman Who was Left on The island Died, the Cruise was Canceled

Days after an elderly female passenger died after being abandoned by the ship on an isolated island, a 60-day trip around Australia was canceled. While hiking on Lizard Island with other Coral Adventurer passengers, Suzanne Rees separated from the group to take a break. When the crew realized the woman was missing, the ship returned a few hours after leaving without her. The following day, her body was discovered during a massive search.

Together with Queensland Police and the state coroner, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (Amsa) is looking into the event. The “tragic passing of Suzanne Rees and previous mechanical issues” were the reasons given on Wednesday for the cancellation of the remaining portion of the Coral Adventurer’s voyage, according to Mark Fifield, CEO of the cruise line Coral Expeditions, who made this announcement on Saturday.

He said in a statement that Coral Expeditions was working “to co-ordinate the return journeys of the passengers via chartered flights” and that passengers would receive a complete refund. In an additional statement issued on Saturday, Amsa stated that it had “issued a notice to the Master of Coral Adventurer” that forbade the ship’s passengers from being added.
