Russia is “very much interlinked” with the wars in Iran and Ukraine, High Representative Kaja Kallas warned on Thursday, urging the US to increase economic pressure on the Kremlin as it benefits from increased oil prices as a result of the conflict.
Moscow is apparently giving drones and intelligence services to Tehran, a long-standing friend, to assist target American military assets in the Middle East. The Trump administration has mainly avoided accusing Russia. We see that Russia is assisting Iran with intelligence to target and kill Americans, and Russia is now assisting Iran with drones to attack neighboring countries and US military bases,” Kallas said as she arrived at a G7 meeting of foreign affairs ministers in Abbaye des Vaux de Cernay, France.
These wars are inextricably intertwined. So, if America wants the war in the Middle East to end (and) Iran to cease attacking them, they should also put pressure on Russia so that they are unable to aid them in this,” she continued.
Kallas urged the United States, Israel, and Iran to “sit down” and find a negotiated settlement, or a “off-ramp,” to terminate the war quickly. Washington and Tehran have delivered contradicting messages about a possible solution, creating confusion.
