The Second Houthi Attack on Riyadh Airport in Two Days Resulted in One Fatality and Eleven Injuries

A second attack on the international airport in the Saudi city of Riyadh has left one person dead and eleven injured, according to officials. A projectile struck King Khalid International Airport on Sunday, starting a fire in a passenger hall, according to a Saudi military official. One individual, a resident of Pakistan, was killed in the attack, according to a statement released on X by Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority. It occurs one day after a strike on the same airport left 308 people injured and 13 dead. Earlier this week, there were many such strikes.

The Houthis in Yemen claimed to be behind them and advised travellers and airlines not to use airports or airspace in Saudi Arabia. The gang claimed that throughout the previous 24 hours, they had used drones and a combination of ballistic and cruise missiles to target the airport. According to Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree, their military spokesperson, they also assaulted Dammam airport and oil sites in eastern Saudi Arabia.

He pledged to carry out the “escalating operations deep inside Saudi Arabia” and warned that, save from those in the holy sites of Mecca and Medina, all Saudi airports may be targets. According to the Houthis, Saudi Arabia is being targeted for both an airstrike on the Sanaa airport and its backing of government forces in Yemen’s civil conflict.
