At the GCC Conference, the Kuwaiti Emir calls for a Immediate Ceasefire” for Gaza

At a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit on Sunday, following nearly 14 months of fighting in the Palestinian enclave, Kuwait’s emir called for an urgent ceasefire in Gaza.

Emir Sheikh Meshal Al Ahmad Al Sabah urged the international community to establish “an immediate ceasefire, providing international protection for innocent civilians and ensuring the opening of safe corridors and the arrival of urgent humanitarian aid.

Sheikh Meshal criticized “Double standards in the application of relevant international laws, charters, and resolutions,” claiming that they have compromised “the region’s security and stability.”

He said Kuwait was “optimistic” about a truce in Lebanon that Israel and Hizbollah had agreed to, saying it would help “to reduce escalation in the region.”

Following a year of fighting that claimed thousands of lives in Lebanon and resulted in widespread displacement on both sides of the border, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and other nations also applauded the truce last week. The Kuwaiti Emir spoke in support of Saudi’s work to form a global body pushing for an independent Palestinian state and lauded “positive and constructive” work by Iran and the GCC.
