A team from the United Arab Emirates was able to visually detect the star Suhail’s ascent in the UAE’s skies.
The group, which included members of the Dubai Committee for the Surveillance of Parents of the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, saw Suhail for themselves on Sunday between 5:22 and 5:32 in the Jebel Hafeet Desert Park. Even though the team had seen Suhail the day before, they couldn’t be positive that they saw him.
The International Astronomical Centre (IAC) announced earlier on Saturday that the star Suhail will soon be visible in the skies over the United Arab Emirates. “On the 24th of August, the star Suhail is set to rise on the centre of the Arabian Peninsula,” the IAC announced through its X platform account.
With a fascination that spans ancient times, the star Suhail is recognised as one of the most important celestial objects in the Arabian Peninsula. The countdown to summer in the region begins when it appears on the southern horizon at dawn. Additionally, the sun’s tilt towards the south, following its vertical position at the beginning of the summer season, is another phenomenon observed by the Arabs.
