The president of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his election win on Wednesday and wished him luck in guiding his country’s continued advancement.
“My heartfelt felicitations to my good friend Narendra Modi on his re-election as Prime Minister and best wishes for him to guide India toward even greater development and prosperity,” stated Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed. Our two countries have a strong strategic alliance, and I look forward to working with you to further the common development objectives of our countries and peoples.
A day after regaining power with an unexpectedly narrow majority, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s National Democratic Alliance (NDA) formally named him on Wednesday to head a new coalition government for a third consecutive term.
The new cabinet’s reform agenda may be complicated because Modi, a populist who has dominated Indian politics since 2014, will lead a government for the first time that depends on the backing of regional allies whose allegiances have shifted over time.
In the 543-member lower house of parliament, the BJP-led NDA secured 293 seats, more than the 272 seats required for a simple majority to form a government. More than expected, the India alliance led by Rahul Gandhi’s centrist Congress party won 230 seats.
