UAE President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia, met in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday to discuss strategic relations under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership (CEP).
Sheikh Mohamed and President Widodo, on a two-day state visit to the UAE, reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing these relations to help achieve their sustainable development goals.
The meeting at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi began with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed greeting President Widodo in his second home, the UAE. Sheikh Mohamed stated that this visit marks the culmination of a long history of constructive and close relations between the two countries, marked by joint and dedicated efforts to benefit the UAE and Indonesia’s people.
Sheikh Mohamed noted that the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in 2022 was a significant milestone, contributing to the UAE and Indonesia’s growing economic cooperation and fostering mutual development. He noted that when President Widodo took office in 2014, the volume of non-oil trade between the two countries was $2.7 billion; by 2023, it had increased to USD 4.4 billion. Furthermore, agreements for projects worth more than $21 billion were signed in Indonesia in 2023, and both countries are looking forward to future strategic investments.
