Together with 155 of their family members, 142 children, and 97 critically injured patients and patients from the Gaza Strip—including cancer patients in need of extensive treatment—the United Arab Emirates and the World Health Organisation launched an urgent humanitarian initiative on Wednesday to evacuate the patients. They were wounded from Ramon airport in Israel to Abu Dhabi via the Karam Abu Salam crossing. The patients and injured people needed immediate medical attention.
“The evacuation flight, which is the second flight to depart from Ramon airport, highlights the UAE’s efforts to provide advanced medical care to injured Palestinians,” stated Reem Bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation.
Al Hashimy continued, “The UAE’s steadfast commitment to supporting the Palestinians during the catastrophic conditions witnessed in the Strip is reflected in the new initiative to evacuate sick and injured Palestinians. We’ll keep up our close collaboration with the UN and other international partners as we spearhead and step up efforts to lessen this humanitarian crisis.”
The World Health Organization’s Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, stated: “We thank the UAE once again for its support of this evacuation of the sick and wounded from the Gaza Strip to receive the urgent care they need.” We firmly believe that these and other endeavours will demonstrate what is feasible and enable more people to be evacuated. The World Health Organisation also reiterates.
