In what seemed to be an attempt to put into effect legislation passed last month that would cut off ties with the UN agency for Palestinian refugees and prohibit it from operating in Israel, Israel announced Monday that it had ended the agreement that allowed the agency to carry out its work. The agency is the primary aid provider in Gaza.
Israel claims that Hamas has infiltrated the organisation, which is called UNRWA. UNRWA says it takes precautions to maintain its neutrality and refutes the accusations.
Israel said on Sunday that its forces had invaded Syria on foot to capture a Syrian it believes is collaborating with Iran. Israel declared that its troops had entered Syrian soil for the first time in the ongoing conflict.
Increased Israeli assaults against the Hezbollah organisation are spreading outside of Lebanon’s border regions, despite mounting pressure from the US and other international players for a cease-fire in Gaza and Lebanon. Additionally, Israel and Hamas are engaged in a never-ending conflict in northern Gaza.
The Health Ministry said that, excluding Friday’s death toll, at least 2,900 people have been killed and 13,150 wounded in Lebanon since the war between Israel and Hezbollah broke out last year. According to health officials, women and children accounted for 25% of the fatalities.
