Lady JB’s journey began early. Marjorie Perrimon | Redefining Regulation at the Intersection of Beauty, Health, and Technology

Marjorie Perrimon

Across the global cosmetics and health landscape, the role of regulation is undergoing a fundamental shift. What was once seen primarily as a function of compliance is now becoming a driver of innovation, shaping how products are developed, validated, and brought to market.

At the center of this transformation is Marjorie Perrimon, Head of Global Regulatory Affairs and Product Safety. She operates in an environment where regulatory complexity is not a limitation, but a structural force that informs strategy and competitive positioning.

Her work reflects a broader industry reality. As scientific scrutiny intensifies and expectations around transparency, safety, and sustainability continue to rise, companies are being required to rethink not only their products, but the systems that support them. In this context, regulation is no longer reactive. It is anticipatory, strategic, and increasingly central to innovation.

Marjorie’s perspective is shaped by a career that extends beyond traditional cosmetics. Her experience as Director of Certification in the medical device sector has introduced a level of rigor that is redefining industry standards. Where cosmetics once relied heavily on formulation and brand narrative, her approach brings in validation, clinical evidence, and structured risk management.

This convergence between cosmetics and medical disciplines is no longer theoretical. It is actively reshaping development models. The boundaries between beauty, health, and technology are dissolving, creating a new category of integrated solutions.

The next generation of products will not exist in isolation. They will be connected to devices such as LED and radiofrequency technologies. They will be part of broader systems that include nutrition and ingestible supplements. They will also operate within value chains increasingly defined by traceability, sustainability, and accountability.

Within this evolving landscape, regulation becomes a common language. It connects science, innovation, and market access, while ensuring that products are not only effective, but safe and meaningful in their application.

Marjorie’s work is also informed by direct human experience. Through her involvement alongside women undergoing cancer treatment, she has developed a deeper understanding of the role cosmetic products can play in people’s lives. In these contexts, cosmetics move beyond aesthetics. They contribute to reconstruction, dignity, and emotional resilience.

This perspective reframes the purpose of the industry itself. Products are no longer designed solely for enhancement. They can also support well-being, identity, and recovery.

In this environment, the role of regulatory leadership expands. It is no longer a support function operating at the margins of innovation. It sits at the core, shaping how products are conceived, validated, and delivered to those who need them most.

Marjorie positions her contribution at this critical intersection. Not downstream, where change is implemented, but upstream, where the frameworks of the next industry paradigm are being defined.

Her work reflects a defining principle. Regulation does not slow innovation. When approached strategically, it enables it, structures it, and ultimately gives it meaning.

Dr. Tony McCaffrey | Restoring Hope Through Creativity and Collective Intelligence

Dr. Tony McCaffrey

We are solving more problems than ever before, yet the problems that matter most remain unsolved.

Climate instability intensifies. Technology advances faster than our understanding of it. Societies grow more connected, yet more divided. The challenge is no longer a lack of knowledge. It is a lack of creative thinking capable of navigating this increasing complexity.

At the center of this conversation is Dr. Tony McCaffrey, a cognitive psychologist, AI researcher, and co-founder of BrainSwarm AI. His work is grounded in a fundamental belief that the world is not facing too many problems. It is facing a shortage of creativity applied to these problems.

McCaffrey’s perspective is shaped by decades of research in creativity and problem solving. While artificial intelligence continues to advance at an unprecedented pace, he challenges the assumption that it will be the primary source of breakthrough thinking. Large Language Models (LLMs) can organize and summarize existing knowledge, but they do not generate truly novel ideas when those ideas do not already exist in the available data. Cropley (2025) mathematically proved that LLMs cannot be more creative than an average person, while McCaffrey (2107) proved that any computer algorithm, not just LLMs, has a severe limit to its creativity.

In this context, reliance on AI alone risks reinforcing existing patterns rather than breaking them. It creates a new form of collective thinking called group-think where originality is diluted, and the ability to see what others overlook becomes increasingly rare.

For McCaffrey, creativity is not an abstract concept. It is a practical skill that can be developed, trained, and applied. His work focuses on a simple but powerful principle. People fail to solve problems because they do not notice crucial features, called obscure features because they are rarely or never before noticed. Innovation begins with attention to these obscure features.

This philosophy is embedded in BrainSwarm AI, a platform designed to bring people together to solve complex problems collaboratively. By combining diverse perspectives, the platform enables individuals to identify overlooked aspects of a challenge. AI can take on perspectives of experts, for example, that you currently do not have on your team. Further, specifically designed AI apps guide humans through techniques that help humans notice the obscure features of the current problem.

Dr. Tony McCaffrey

McCaffrey extends this approach through creative storytelling. His comic strip superhero, Captain Sideways, introduces young audiences to the concept of looking at problems from different angles and noticing obscure features. Through narrative and engagement, users learn practical techniques that improve their ability to think creatively and apply those insights in real world situations.

Captain Sideways

His work is also shaped by a deeper concern about the current state of the world. Reflecting on environmental crises, technological acceleration, and societal division, he raises a fundamental question. Why does humanity struggle to act collectively even when the stakes are clear?

History offers evidence that coordinated action is possible. The global response to the ozone crisis in the late twentieth century demonstrated that when science, policy, and the public align, large scale change can be achieved. The challenge today is not capability. It is alignment, attention, and willingness to act.

To this end, McCaffrey has started “Teens Solving Global Problems.” Teens are more creative than either adult experts or AI. His teen students have already solved three global problems this year out of the five they have attempted. Their solutions have been confirmed by domain experts. Adult experts suffer from several factors that greatly inhibit their creativity. First, developmentally, they are beyond their creative peak. Second, they are “over-knowledged” about their domains of expertise, which inhibits their creativity. Third, they are too familiar with the details of all the attempts to solve the major problems in their field, which greatly decreases their creativity. Teenagers, on the other hand, can be trained on the basics of a problem without gaining too much knowledge about it. Then, they apply their high creativity to the problem.

Finally, McCaffrey is building an “Innovation Exchange,” which is an online repository where “sellers” enter what their inventions know how to do and “buyers” enter what they need an invention to do. Humans as well as AI search the repository to find matches. Then, the two people involved in a match communicate offline to determine whether they should team up and put their ideas together to produce an important invention. Notice that no proprietary information is stored in the repository. It only stores what something does, not how it does it as would occur in a patent database.

Through BrainSwarm AI and his broader body of work, McCaffrey positions his contribution at a critical intersection. Not as a replacement for artificial intelligence, but as a counterbalance that restores human creativity, especially teen creativity, as a central force in solving global challenges.

His work reflects a defining principle. The future will not be shaped by technology alone. It will be shaped by the ability of people to think differently, work together, and create solutions that do not yet exist.

He does not present creativity as optional. He presents it as essential. His mantra: Creativity is our world’s only hope.

In a time when hope feels increasingly fragile, his work offers a clear direction. Not by simplifying the problems we face, but by strengthening our capacity to solve them and recruiting the most highly creative demographic (i.e., teenagers) to lead the way.
