In Shreveport, Louisiana, a mass shooting that police described as a “domestic disturbance” claimed the lives of seven of the father’s children as well as another kid. According to the officers, the firing started on Sunday at around 5:00 (10:00 GMT). According to authorities, the guy fled in a stolen vehicle after assaulting the kids at a residence. After that, officers pursued him and killed him.
After being injured by gunfire, two adult women, including the mother of the children, are in critical condition. Additionally, a ninth youngster who had escaped by jumping from the house’s roof was taken to the hospital.
The director of communications for Shreveport’s mayor told the BBC that the suspect was Shamar Elkins. In a press conference earlier on Sunday, Chris Bordelon, a spokesman for the Shreveport Police Department, stated, “We do believe him to be the only individual who fired gunshots at these locations.”
Officials have not yet offered an explanation for the gunman’s actions.
There were five girls and three boys among the siblings and one cousin. According to the Caddo Parish coroner’s office, their ages ranged from three to eleven.
The children’s ages ranged from 1 to 14, according to prior statements by local authorities on Sunday.
