Meta will Cut One of Every Ten Jobs After Investing Billions on AI

Meta will shed thousands of workers next month as it invests more than ever in artificial intelligence (AI) programs. In a note to employees on Thursday, the corporation announced plans to slash 10% of its workforce, or approximately 8,000 employees. It also stated that it would not fill thousands of other open positions that it had been hiring for.

Meta’s increasing expenditure on other areas of the company, like AI, is a major factor for the layoffs, with the company investing $135 billion (£100 billion) this year. According to a person who has seen the document, this is comparable to the amount spent on AI over the preceding three years combined.

A Meta representative confirmed the proposed job layoffs but declined to provide any details. Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s co-founder and CEO, made public comments in January indicating that the business might reduce staff again this year.

The Meta boss praised the increased productivity of AI-enabled workers, saying that a single individual can now execute projects that formerly required a huge team.”I believe that 2026 will be the year that AI begins to dramatically change the way we work,” Zuckerberg remarked.
