Banksy Admits he’s Behind the Monument in Central London

Banksy, the street artist, has confirmed that the enormous statue in central London is his work. The sculpture, which bears his signature, depicts a suited man going forward from a pedestal while holding a flag that conceals his face.

Its location, Waterloo Place in St James’s, is intended to commemorate imperialism and military power in the nineteenth century. The sculpture is situated among statues of Edward VII, Florence Nightingale, and the Crimean War memorial. Banksy’s agents told the BBC that the statue was installed in the early hours of Wednesday, before the artist shared a video of it on Instagram on Thursday afternoon.

Ollie Isaac, a 23-year-old student, explained that Banksy’s public art is only available for a limited period.I think it’s wonderful,” he said, adding that he believed the statue was a response to “the rising of nationalism in the world and this country.”Westminster City Council, which oversees the area, stated, “We’re pleased to see Banksy’s new sculpture in Westminster, creating a striking addition to the city’s vibrant street art scene.
