Vance Cancels his Travel to Switzerland, Delaying US-Iran Negotiations

Vice-President JD Vance postponed a scheduled travel to Switzerland, delaying a new round of direct negotiations between the United States and Iran. The White House stated that the logistics had not been “simple or predictable” and declared late on Thursday that Vance would not be attending the negotiations.

It occurs a day after the US lifted its naval blockade of Iran following an agreement between the two nations to put an end to hostilities. The country’s health ministry reported that Israeli attacks had killed at least eighteen people in the south overnight, despite the agreement explicitly stating that violence should cease in Lebanon.

Israel’s military claimed to have killed four of its own soldiers while attacking Hezbollah, a group supported by Iran. The purpose of the meeting, according to US officials, was to have “technical discussions” about the next steps of the deal that was reached earlier this week.

However, the White House stated that the negotiations’ intentions had “not been finalised” in their statement. The US was eager to “begin technical talks as soon as possible,” it continued.
