A new feature from Spotify will indicate whether an artist was produced by artificial intelligence (AI). According to the streaming service, listeners will be alerted whether a “artist’s identity may be AI-generated and does not represent a real person” by the AI Persona emblem, which will display on some profiles starting in mid-September. According to Spotify, the modifications are being made to provide users with “more transparency” over what they’re hearing.
It happened after some music lovers made it “clear” to the streamer that they dislike seeing profiles that appear to be created by AI. Artists and audiences have long been concerned about music produced by artificial intelligence. According to musician Alex Winn, the upcoming feature is a “really good thing” (BBC Newsbeat).Guitarist Winn of the North East band Swindled adds, “It almost separates the people who have created music properly from the people just using AI.”
The musician believes that “AI can’t really do that” and that people want to “connect emotionally with music.” Additionally, the 19-year-old claims that having the AI label will enable individuals to make educated decisions about their listening preferences. He also thinks that it will help level the playing field by directing consumers to other artists.No matter what, musicians are struggling to compete, especially with certain AI bands taking over,” he claims.
Leon Keenan, a music enthusiast, believes that explicitly marking AI music is a “really good” idea, but he disagrees that it should be entirely removed off Spotify.The 20-year-old continues, “I really dislike AI music; it’s awful. Music is about passion.”
