An older man who patted a small child on the head at a food court is being investigated by Singaporean police for assault. Following the gesture, a guy who was thought to be the young girl’s father became irritated and pushed the 73-year-old to the ground. Over the weekend, security camera footage of the Saturday incident went viral. Most described the violent altercation as an overreaction to a pat on the head, while some contended that the old man shouldn’t have touched the child without the parents’ permission.
Police stated they had identified a 40-year-old male involved in the incident in a statement released on Sunday nite. Police advised the public to “conduct investigations and establish the facts of the case” and “not to speculate on the incident or its circumstances”. As he passed the child’s table at a food court in a shopping complex, the elderly man can be seen on camera giving her a head pat. He was quickly halted by a woman who was sat at the same table and was thought to be the girl’s mother. The elderly man was challenged by another man who was thought to be the father as he made his way back to the table.
