Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced on Tuesday that Amazon.com Inc. intends to spend S$12 billion ($8.88 billion) over the next four years to expand its cloud computing infrastructure in Singapore. The declaration made at the AWS ASEAN Summit in Singapore is the latest step in the company’s strategy to establish Amazon Web Services (AWS) regions across Southeast Asia. The company had previously announced a $5 billion investment in Thailand and a $6 billion spend in Malaysia.
The new investment adds to the S$11.5 billion that the company has already invested in the Asia Pacific Region through 2023, bringing the total planned spend to more than S$23 billion by 2028, according to AWS.
AWS also announced a partnership with the Singapore government, public sector organisations, and businesses to help accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI in Singapore, according to the statement.
AWS Country Manager Priscilla Chong said AWS is increasing its cloud infrastructure investments in Singapore from 2024 to 2028 to meet customer demand and strengthen Singapore’s position as an attractive regional innovation launchpad.
The announcement, made at the AWS ASEAN Summit in Singapore, is the latest step in the company’s strategy to establish AWS infrastructure regions throughout Southeast Asia. The company had previously announced investments of $5 billion in Thailand and $6 billion in Malaysia.
