Anthropic has paused its strong new AI model after US officials expressed security concerns just days after its public release. Anthropic has been compelled to suspend foreign nationals from using Claude Fable 5, a tool considered as “too powerful” on its website. To ensure compliance, this ruling requires us to abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all of our clients,” the business added.
Anthropic and the Trump administration are involved in a separate ongoing dispute over an order prohibiting government agencies from using the company’s AI products. The BBC has asked the US Department of Commerce for comment.
Claude Fable 5 is a version of Anthropic’s Claude Mythos, an AI software that competes with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. Anthropic stated that US national security authorities did not identify particular concerns.”Our understanding is that the government believes it has discovered a way to bypass, or ‘jailbreak’ Fable 5,” the business stated.
Jailbreaking is the technique of bypassing software limitations intended to safeguard a cyber network, allowing hackers to access sensitive information or unlock features.
