As Peace Takes Hold, Diplomats Examine Karabakh’s Restoration

As reconciliation with Armenia accelerates with fresh political and economic measures, a delegation of US and European diplomats accredited to Azerbaijan spent the weekend touring Karabakh’s post-conflict rehabilitation areas.

The diplomatic team wanted to examine “the progress in the renovations” because “we fully support as the Netherlands, as part of the EU, the reconciliation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” Dutch Ambassador Marianne de Jong told Euronews.

The envoy stated that the Netherlands is looking for ways to encourage investment and connectivity. The South Caucasus peace process “is a good example how two countries solved long-term conflict with a respect to international law,” according to Yuriy Husyev, the ambassador of Ukraine.

Amy Carlon, the deputy chief of mission at the US embassy in Baku, told Euronews that Washington and Baku “have been taking concrete actions to implement peace and bilateral partnership,” highlighting the US role in the peace process.

Reconstruction activities in Karabakh are progressing as the continuing peace process between the two former adversaries develops, with infrastructure projects becoming a new stage of regional development.
