According to officials, a massive explosion at the Shahid Rajaee port in Bandar Abbas, southern Iran, on Saturday claimed the lives of at least four individuals. According to internal sources, the explosion damaged port offices and was strong enough to send shockwaves over neighbouring cities. A few miles distant from the scene of the tragedy, the blast also broke the glass of buildings. At least 516 people have been hurt, according to state television.
The reason of the explosion is yet unknown, according to the director general of crisis management for Hormozgan province, which encompasses Bandar Abbas. Firefighting personnel are presently attempting to put out the fire caused by the explosion, which happened in a portion of the port’s quay, according to the Hormozgan Provincial Department of Ports.
Following the explosion, billowing black smoke was visible in social media footage. Others displayed glass that had been blasted from structures located miles distant from the explosion’s core.
State TV footage showed ambulances coming as doctors hurried one victim on a stretcher as the injured crowded into at least one hospital.Approximately 72.5 million metric tonnes of commodities are handled annually by the Shahid Rajaee port, a significant facility for container shipping in the Islamic Republic.
