5th March 2024: Meta-owned platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, are facing a widespread outage, leaving users unable to access key features. The technical issues, which began on Tuesday, have disrupted login capabilities and feed refresh functions across these popular social media services.
Reports of Login and Feed Issues
Users have reported being logged out of their Facebook accounts unexpectedly, with subsequent attempts to log back in proving futile. Instagram users are also facing challenges, with feed refreshes failing and stories, as well as comments, not loading. Threads, another Meta app, is experiencing a complete shutdown, displaying error messages to users trying to access the service.
Meta Responds to Service Disruption
The rapid increase in outage reports on DownDetector has highlighted the extent of the problem. Although Meta was initially silent on the issue, spokesperson Andy Stone later acknowledged the service disruptions on Twitter, stating, “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.” This statement has provided some reassurance to users that the company is addressing the technical difficulties.
