According to local reports, the Israeli force has begun a massive crackdown in the occupied West Bank, destroying houses and businesses in Hebron and uprooting hundreds of families.
Israeli bulldozers were seen wreaking havoc in footage that was circulated online; at least one street appeared to have been completely destroyed. Additionally, the military has sealed off the city, severely limiting the 200,000 citizens’ freedom of movement.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the operation on Friday in reaction to two Palestinian militants attacking a checkpoint and murdering two Israeli troops. The shooters were killed, and three additional Israeli soldiers were hurt. Netanyahu declared on Friday that the two gunmen’s home areas and the surrounding structures would be “destroyed” after the attack.
The operation, which focused on the Ein Deir Baha and Farsh al-Hawa areas and targeted homes, shops, industrial facilities, and infrastructure, has evacuated around 2,000 residents, according to Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz.
He claimed that although homes were designated for demolition with spray paint, scores of families had been forced to spend the nite outside and others had been instructed to leave without their cars.
