Iran Expects Widespread Layoffs Due to the Conflict With The US and Israel

Due to the dispute with the US and Israel, Iran has experienced a large wave of layoffs, both directly and indirectly. Two days earlier, Gholamhossein Mohammadi, the deputy minister of work and social security, stated that the war had caused two million people to lose their jobs.

One of the most popular subjects of discussion among regular Iranians on social media is the rampant layoffs. It is euphemistically referred to as “balancing the workforce” by employers and government officials.

The effects extend well beyond the closure of factories following airstrikes. Other manufacturers, merchants, import and export companies, and the digital industry are also included.

One user on X wrote, “You can see it from the emptiness of the metro.” “You can see it from the abundance of parking spaces near the office,” another person stated. “You can obtain it from the emptiness of Tehran’s Hemmat highway. Another person commented, “My one-and-a-half-hour journey took only thirty minutes.”

Due to many individuals cutting back on necessities, the war has also had a detrimental effect on consumer spending, reducing demand in industries such as travel, dining, and non-grocery businesses.
