King Meets the Prohibited Women’s Cricket Team

The Afghan women’s cricket team, which is now in exile and cannot represent their country due to the Taliban regime’s ban on women’s sport, has received a symbolic display of solidarity from King Charles.

The women shared with him how they managed to flee the Taliban in Afghanistan in order to pursue their cricketing aspirations. The King greeted the cricket players warmly in Clarence House on a sweltering morning, saying, “I’m so glad that you can pursue what you want to do.

The squad was representing all the women who are prohibited from participating in sports, according to cricket player Ekil Latifi, who hasn’t seen her family in Afghanistan in five years. She said, “It’s all about the Afghan women back in our country. Although King Charles has encountered other touring sports teams, this particular team was unique in that it is not legally permitted to exist.

Afghanistan’s women’s national cricket team was no longer permitted to represent their country in official events due to the Taliban’s prohibition on women’s sports. Now, the majority of the crew has fled Afghanistan and is now living in Australia as refugees.
