Chinese authorities executed a man for the murder of his associate, billionaire gaming tycoon Lin Qi. According to local media, Xu Yao poisoned Lin in 2020 after being sidelined shortly after he assisted him in landing a Netflix agreement.
Lin’s Yoozoo Games owns the film adaptation rights to the Chinese science fiction trilogy, which Netflix turned into the series 3 Body Problem. Xu was convicted in 2024 and executed on May 21, according to his company’s statement on Tuesday, stating that “justice has been served.”The message expressed profound condolences to Mr. Lin’s family.As coworkers who fought alongside him, all members of the company appreciate the fairness of the court procedure.”
Remembrance of Earth’s Past, written by Chinese novelist Liu Cixin, serves as the basis for the science fiction trilogy 3 Body Problem. Originally published in Chinese, the books have been translated into nearly 30 languages and spawned several adaptations. The Netflix adaption in 2024 immediately became one of the streaming service’s most popular episodes. Lin was posthumously named an executive producer.
