Court documents show that the man who fired rounds outside the White House, injuring a bystander before being shot and killed by Secret Service agents, had past encounters with officials there.
Nasire Best, as reported by Washington DC’s Metropolitan Police Department, previously obstructed a White House access line in June 2025 and claimed to be Jesus Christ to Secret Service personnel. Following the incident, he was referred for a mental evaluation.
Best is suspected of shooting shots at the president’s mansion shortly after 18:00 EST (23:00 GMT) on Saturday, causing reporters recording outside to duck and go inside. President Donald Trump was present at the White House but was unhurt.
According to court filings, Best of Dundalk, Maryland, told Secret Service officers that he wanted to be arrested during an incident in June 2025.
