Tesla Recalls Most Cybertrucks Because the Trim Detached off the Vehicle

Tesla is recalling 46,096 Cybertruck cars in the United States–nearly all Cybertrucks built before February–to repair an external panel that could detach while driving, adding to a slew of recalls for the pickup truck since last year. While Tesla does not break down Cybertruck deliveries, expert estimates suggest that the recalled vehicles account for the great majority of pickup trucks on the road now.

The recall might be a setback for Tesla, whose stock has lost nearly half of its value this year as the firm deals with increased competition, an aging lineup, and outrage over CEO Elon Musk’s contentious position managing federal budget cuts in the Trump White House.

The recall is intended to remedy a stainless-steel exterior trim panel that might detach from the vehicle, posing a road hazard and increasing the danger of a crash, according to a notice issued by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Tesla will replace the assembly for free. After many delays, demand for the unusual EV pickup began to wane at the end of last year. The EV maker’s shares slid 1.4 percent in premarket trading.
