The US had identified a credible Iranian threat to launch a missile against the aircraft, officials told CBS News, the BBC’s US partner. According to the New York Times, US intelligence was aware of a guy who had been spotted carrying a shoulder-fired missile close to the NATO meeting. The US president had been smuggled out as part of a complex hoax in reaction to a potential Iranian threat, but journalists and some White House employes on board were unaware of this.
