21 People are Killed in a Russian Strike, and Ukraine Claims it Needs More Missile Interceptors

Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, claimed that interceptors “could have saved lives” after Russia attacked his country with ballistic missiles and drones, killing at least 21 people. Overnight, 17 persons were confirmed dead in the bloodiest attacks Kyiv and the surrounding area had seen this year. Additionally, one and three persons were killed in attacks in Kharkiv and Donetsk, respectively.

Ukraine has not claimed to have intercepted any of the missiles in the overnight attack, despite repeatedly pleading with friends for more Patriot missile interceptors manufactured in the United States to protect against Russian ballistics. Zelensky stated that “horrific casualties and destruction” result from partners’ delayed delivery of anti-ballistic equipment.

Later, the president said that this year’s supply of interceptors from allies had been “significantly reduced”. According to Russia’s defense ministry, supply and logistics facilities in Kyiv and the surrounding area have been hit. These facilities produced and distributed unmanned aerial vehicles in addition to storing and delivering a variety of weapons and military supplies, according to the statement. Additionally, it claimed to have struck three cargo ships “which were transporting weapons and military equipment” close to the port of Odesa on the Black Sea.
