Kevin Lamour called the contentious plans “the project of one person” and stated that “the time has now come for football political leaders to ask themselves the right questions and make the right decisions” in a statement given to the Associated Press.
The Fifa administration was “deceived” about the proposal, he continued. Fifa has been contacted by BBC Sport for comment. Infantino was not specifically mentioned in the long statement.
It happened on the same day that Infantino’s senior adviser resigned, a third confederation voiced opposition to the plans, and Prime Minister Andy Burnham declared the Swiss to be “the wrong man” to head Fifa.
Speaking about the plans for the first time, US President Donald Trump said he had not discussed them with Infantino. Since Trump took office a second time in 2025, the two have grown close.
Lamour added in his statement: “Our mission – the mission of the hundreds of passionate, dedicated, and exemplary Fifa employees – is to serve football. “A president needs to inspire, unite, and bring people together. We are having the opposite experience today. Lamour admitted that in addition to his obligation to uphold “certain values” and assist his coworkers, he had a duty of loyalty to his company.
