The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai reported that 747.1 million people used the city’s public transport and shared mobility services in 2024, up 6.4% from 702 million in 2023.
Public buses, Dubai Metro, Dubai Tram, shared mobility (such as ride-hailing via smart apps, hourly rentals, and bun-on-demand), taxis (Dubai Taxi and franchise firms), and marine transportation (abras, ferries, and water taxis) were among the transit services that were used. The average number of daily riders increased from 1.92 million in 2023 to above 2 million. Furthermore, 19 million people used luxury transportation services, or limousines. In 2024, 153 million journeys were made using taxis, pooled mobility, and public transportation.
Of these, more than 115 million journeys were made in taxis, while almost 32 million trips were made using shared mobility services. With 14.1 million trips apiece, October and November had the highest travel volumes.
With almost 69.9 million rides, November 2024 also had the most ridership, followed by October (68.4 million) and December (around 68 million). The number of riders during the subsequent months varied from 54 million to 65 million.
RTA’s Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, Mattar Al Tayer, said he was pleased with the steady yearly rise in public transport usage and the 28% rise in shared mobility users over 2023.
