President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday that Turkey had found a new natural gas deposit in the Black Sea that will provide its domestic energy requirements for nearly three years.
75 billion cubic meters (2,650 cubic feet) of additional natural gas have been found. He estimated its value at $30 billion and stated, “With this amount, we will meet the needs of our homes alone for about 3.5 years.”
We will be able to supply natural gas to Turkish houses for three and a half years, thanks to this finding, Mr Erdogan stated at a gathering in Istanbul. The finding was made in the Goktepe-3 well at a depth of 3,500 meters and is estimated to have a commercial worth of $30 billion.
At its flagship Sakarya field in the Black Sea, Turkey produces about 9.5 million cubic meters of natural gas per day as it increases its domestic and international energy goals.
More than 90% of Turkey’s energy needs are imported, thus the country is working to reduce its import costs and increase supply security by growing its local resources and international collaborations in oil and gas development.
