For The first Time, Netflix Uses AI Effects to Save Expenses

For the first time, Netflix claims to have included generative artificial intelligence (AI)-generated visual effects into one of its original TV series. Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of the streaming behemoth, said that the Argentine science fiction series The Eternaut featured a depiction of a building collapse created by artificial intelligence (AI), which generates pictures and movies in response to cues.

According to him, the production crew was able to finish sequences more quickly and more affordably because to the technology. In the entertainment sector, generative AI is contentious because to worries that it may replace human labor and produce material that uses other people’s work without their permission.

Mr. Sarandos’ remarks came as Netflix revealed that, in comparison to the same period last year, its income for the three months ending in June increased by 16% to $11 billion (£8.25 billion). From $2.1 billion to $3.1 billion in profits.

According to the streaming company, the success of the third and final seasons of the South Korean drama Squid Game, which has had 122 million views to far, contributed to the better-than-expected performance.

In response to a question concerning Netflix’s usage of AI, Mr. Sarandos stated that the technology has made it possible for projects with lower budgets to employ sophisticated visual effects.
