Rite Aid, a US Pharmacy Business, closes its Last Locations

Rite Aid, a US pharmacy chain, declared that it would shut down its last locations. The following announcement about the shutdown was posted on the company’s website on Saturday: “All Rite Aid stores have now closed. We appreciate the many years of support from our devoted customers. Customers might request their pharmaceutical records via the link on the website.

The business was one of the biggest drugstore chains in the nation when it was founded in 1962. Rite Aid had 5,000 stores at its height. However, the company had to deal with financial difficulties and an inquiry by the Justice Department in recent years. Less than 100 stores were left by Friday, according to data.

Legal issues also arose because of the company’s involvement in the opioid crisis. According to CBS, the BBC’s American news partner, Rite Aid settled charges alleging it helped fuel the opioid epidemic in the United States in 2022, paying up to $30 million.

It claimed that restructuring will assist it “resolve litigation claims” in its 2023 bankruptcy filing. Additionally, Rite Aid was the target of a Justice Department complaint alleging that its outlets illegally filled prescriptions for oxycodone and fentanyl. In July 2024, the business decided to reach a settlement.
