Dick Cheney’s passing was described as “a loss to the nation and a sorrow to his friends” by former US President George W. Bush. According to a statement from his family, Cheney passed away on Monday night at the age of 84 due to complications from pneumonia and heart and vascular problems.
Under Bush, he rose to become one of the most influential US vice presidents in history, leaving a contentious record as a pivotal figure in the “war on terror” and an early proponent of the 2003 invasion of Iraq. He will go down in history as one of the best public servants of his time,” Bush declared in a statement.
Cheney had been “a patriot who brought integrity, high intelligence, and seriousness of purpose to every position he held said Bush. I relied on him for direct, honest advice, and he always gave it his all. He upheld his beliefs and gave the American people top priority to their freedom and security.
Cheney’s fellow Secretary of State during the Bush administration, Condoleezza Rice, expressed her admiration for him “for his integrity and his love of our country. She said on X, “He was an inspiring figure and teacher who taught me lots about public service.
