The prime minister of Poland promised to apprehend those guilty “regardless of who their backers are” after claiming that “an unprecedented act of sabotage” was the cause of this weekend’s explosion on a railway line that leads to the Ukrainian border.
Donald Tusk, who visited the area this morning, stated that Sunday’s damage to the railroad rails was intentional and probably intended to blow up the train. He was relieved that no one was hurt.
Poland’s special services minister stated later in Warsaw that there was a “very high chance” that the explosion was carried out on the orders of “foreign services” following an emergency meeting of security authorities.
Although he did not specifically mention Russia, Poland has recently seen many significant acts of sabotage and arson, including parcel bombings, which it believes are part of Moscow’s hybrid war on the West.
Poland’s rail system serves as both a channel for citizens entering and leaving the nation and a vital component of the military supply routes for neighboring Ukraine. A second incident occurred farther down the same route on Sunday, when a crowded train was forced to stop abruptly. It is believed to be “very likely” to be another instance of sabotage rather than an explosion.
