With experience spanning sectors, he currently leads as a Partner and Operations Manager at A-LINE DESIGN, a dynamic interior design studio based in Kuwait. Leading all related operations, from concept development to execution, and everything in between, Issam is a key driving force behind the firm, turning every project into conceptual spaces through a balance of aesthetics, practicality, and sustainability.
Transition in Career Trajectory
Issam Mhanna’s journey started in marketing, where he learned how to understand consumer behavior, brand positioning, and market strategy. Working in different sectors from industrial to consumer, from technical to luxury, and from retail to media, he acquired years of hands-on experience in these sectors in several countries across the Middle East and the GCC.
However, Issam’s passion for creativity and spatial aesthetics was his true calling. In 2010, he decided to merge both worlds and founded A-LINE DESIGN with his Partner in lie and in Business, Eng. Aline Matar. He reflects, “The transition wasn’t sudden, it was strategic. I realized that interior design is not just about beauty; it’s about experience, branding, and functionality. My marketing background gave me a competitive edge in understanding clients’ needs and delivering spaces that truly connect with their vision.”

Whether residential or commercial, each project begins with understanding the client’s personality, goals, and lifestyle, ensuring to never miss even the tiniest detail. “We don’t just design interiors, we design experiences. Every detail, from layout planning to material selection, is carefully curated to ensure harmony and efficiency. Our goal is not only to meet expectations but to exceed them by creating timeless environments that leave lasting impressions,” Issam states.

Issam’s marketing background has significantly influenced his approach to interior design operations. Marketing instilled in him structure, planning, and measurable execution. In interior design, creativity must be supported by operational excellence. His experience in sales forecasting, budgeting, brand development, and market analysis allows Issam to manage projects with precision.
He comments, “At A-LINE DESIGN, I handle everything from client relationships and concept development to execution and delivery. I approach each project like a brand launch. There is research, strategy, positioning, and a final presentation. This operational discipline ensures projects stay within timeline and budget while maintaining high-quality standards. It also helps us market our services effectively and build long-term relationships with clients across the region.”

Because of Issam’s background in Marketing Management, he has a strong understanding of commercial spaces not merely as physical areas, but as business tools.
He explains, “For retail or corporate clients, design must enhance customer experience and brand identity. For residential projects, it must reflect personality and comfort. We also emphasize end-to-end involvement from conceptualization to execution ensuring consistency and quality control.” A regional understanding of the GCC market gives the firm cultural sensitivity and adaptability, which is crucial in delivering impactful projects.

Over 16 years at A-LINE DESIGN, Issam has experienced several events that shaped his leadership approach. He believes the biggest lesson is that leadership requires balance between vision and discipline. Issam reflects, “Creativity inspires, but structure delivers results. As a Partner and Operations Manager, I learned that clear communication, accountability, and teamwork are essential. Every project involves architects, contractors, suppliers, and clients alignment is critical. I also learned the importance of adaptability. Markets evolve, design trends change, and client expectations grow.”
Issam strongly believes a leader must remain flexible while staying true to the company’s core values. “Empowering my team and fostering a collaborative environment has been key to sustaining growth and maintaining a strong reputation in the region,” he adds.

“Concept development begins with listening. I spend significant time understanding the client’s objectives, lifestyle, and long-term vision,” Issam states. Then, they conduct site analysis, research design trends, and explore functional requirements. Aligning with Issam’s belief that a strong concept must be both creative and practical, they create mood boards, 3D visualizations, and detailed plans to bring ideas to life before execution at A-LINE DESIGN. Leveraging Issam’s marketing experience, he even identifies how a space will be perceived especially for commercial projects where brand identity plays a major role. He mentions, “The concept stage is crucial because it sets the foundation for smooth execution and ensures alignment with the client’s expectations.”

Sharing his future goals for A-LINE DESIGN, Issam shares, “My vision is to expand A-LINE DESIGN’s footprint further across the GCC and the Middle East while maintaining our personalized approach. I want the company to be recognized not only for design excellence but also for operational reliability and strategic thinking. We aim to integrate more sustainable design practices and innovative technologies into our projects.
