Jailed Cryptocurrency Entrepreneur Sam Bankman-Fried Wants Trump’s Pardon

Sam Bankman-Fried, the former cryptocurrency tycoon who is presently serving a jail sentence for fraud, has requested a pardon from President Donald Trump. Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison after being convicted of various federal counts relating to FTX, the cryptocurrency exchange he founded and operated, and its affiliated company Alameda Research.

According to internet records, just two years into his sentence, the 34-year-old former billionaire has applied to the Department of Justice for a pardon. If Bankman-Fried is granted a pardon, his crimes will be considered forgiven under the law.

A White House spokesperson declined to comment. A representative at Bankman-Fried did not respond to a request for comment. A “pardon after completion of sentence would imply that Bankman-Fried’s conviction for several counts of fraud would be overturned once he served his jail sentence.

He has not requested a commutation, which is the reduction of a felony term already served. However, he is currently appealing his sentence, and he has long maintained his innocence.
