Romanian President Nicușor Dan has declared that Romanian soldiers have shot down a third drone in just three days, adding to the nation’s history of drone-related events. Dan stated in a social media post that at around 10:13 a.m. on Sunday, an F-16 fighter jet from the Romanian air force had intercepted a drone over Romanian territorial seas. According to reports, the incident happened near the Ukrainian border in the Sulina–Chilia region of the Danube Delta.Dan wrote on X, I would like to congratulate the Romanian pilots and ground crews on their professionalism, bravery, and efficiency in carrying out their missions.”
An F-16 shot down another unmanned aerial object on Saturday morning, around 10 kilometers west of the eastern Romanian village of Sfěu Gheorghe, according to Romanian authorities. The drone was “safely shot down in an unpopulated area near the border,” according to a statement released by the Romanian Defense Ministry on Saturday, after two jets scrambled to locate and intercept the target.
Around 11 a.m. on Friday, a Romanian F-16 shot down a third drone. According to Romanian officials, the drone that was caught on Friday was identified by the Romanian Prosecutor General’s Office as being of the Shahed kind, which was employed by Russian forces in their conflict with Ukraine.
